This Riesling belongs to the great tradition of terroir wines. What an exciting Riesling! Felix Eschenauer described it perfectly, "ein Obstkorb aus dem Saft rinnt über Felsspalten und glatten Schiefer".........
Very opulent distinctive style and a bit more a demi-sec. The wine is characterized by very overripe flavors of white peach, pears, pineapple with a superb deep minerality of flint stone and a touch of nougat/coffee. Delicious mouthfeeling combined with a looooong finish. But despite the opulence the "Röttgen" is not exhausting or flamboyant by no means, as the minerality keeps it all in balance. According to Mr. Löwenstein, "the soft slate in RÖTTGEN has a yellowish-brown to reddish-brown colour that evidences a hight content of iron oxide".
Great pleasure to drink right now, but also a good future for the next years. Perfect match with Foie Gras!
