2002 Ch. Doisy-Daëne, Bordeaux, France
The winemaker Denis Dubourdieu, a consultant and enology professor a the University of Bordeaux, is a master of white wines in red-wine land. Historically his Doisy-Daëne sec is the first dry white wine to be made in the Sauternes area.
This sec Sauvignon Blanc has a fresh bouquet of fern, mint and grapefruite. Nice crisp, vibrant fruit flavors of grapefruite with a hint of oak. The oak is good integrated now,as I had tasted this wine also at release and it was at this early stage too dominated by the oak. In comparison with Riesling he lacks a bit of dimension.
But his lovely refreshing acidity and crisp, vibrant fruit makes him a good partner with fish. A white wine worth of cellaring. Keep your eyes also open for his other white-wines sec like Clos Floridène or Ch. Reynon.
