2003 G. Breuer, "Nonnenberg", Rheingau, Germany
This is the last vintage of the famous winemaker Bernhard Breuer who died too early in 2004. He was one of the leading personality of the german winemakers and equipped with an impressive passion for wine.
What a masterpiece, simply a textbook Riesling! Just the nose is so overwhelming with notes of apricots, tobacco, blossoms and a stunning minerality. On the palate dense flavors of tobacco, herbs, peach, grapefruite and a subtle acidity. Really a powerful Riesling with a never-ending length and an impressive depth. Not completely dry (13%) due to the hot vintage 2003. Anyway, such a pure definition of Riesling with lush fruit flavors, refreshing acidity and an elegant minerality as a backbone. Finally, the Riesling´s of Breuer are notorious for a long life.
